4 Important tips for freelance writers

Offering your writing services is as in demand today than ever with throngs of aspiring bloggers entering the online business fray.

Only so many of these folks want to learn the nuances of writing and publishing content. Most bloggers would gladly pay freelance writers to render the valued service of content creation on demand.

Freelance writers craft copy for business sites, populate blogs with helpful content and even ghost-write eBooks.

Before you dive into this prospering niche, you need to do a few things right to build your freelance writing business on a rock solid foundation.

Follow these tips to become a successful freelance writer.

1: Practice Your Writing in Private

This is far and away the #1 tip for becoming a successful freelance writer.

But most freelancers don’t follow this advice, leading to their struggles.

Write in private to shine on a professional stage.

Open a Word document. Write 500 to 1000 words daily. Put the Word document in the trash after you finish writing.

This simple practice helps you gain confidence and clarity in your writing voice. Confident freelancers promote their work freely. Clear freelancers also charge premium rates to build a full-time business over the long haul.

Unfortunately, the lot of freelance writers only write if they get work or publish a blog post. This is lunacy. Imagine if a professional athlete only practised the sport during games? No way would pro athletes ever leave amateur status because top pros spend much of their life honing their skills through persistent practice well before they get paid for their craft.

2: Build a Services Page

Create a benefits-based, attractive services page.

Draw freelance writing business for you.

Building a services page helps potential clients clearly see what you have to offer. Go big on benefits to stress how you can help individuals.

Explain specific niches you cover to meet client expectations best. Show off client testimonials.

Don’t make a freelance services page only about convincing. Add relevant content that explains how you can generously serve your clients to better connect with ideal matches.

You decide whether or not to include rates on this page. Sharing your rates can help to release on people who are on a tight budget so you can work with clear, established individuals.

Be as transparent as possible. Explicitly share how you benefit potential clients to find perfect matches and to let go non-matches.

Most freelancers struggle to grow thriving ventures because they skip this step or publish a vague, unclear services page on their blogs.

How can a client hire you if you don’t clearly explain how you can help them?

Get clear. Grow your freelancing business.

3: Build Bonds with Successful Freelance Writers

Build friendships with top freelance writers.

Comment on their blogs.

Promote them on social media.

Promote those reputed bloggers on your blog.

As these friendships develop, you will become the recipient of sweet endorsements from these powerful as well as successful professionals which will further expand the reach of your business.

Be a friend to become a friend. Help successful freelance writers without asking for anything in return.

Part of the bond building process includes creating helpful content that impresses both potential clients and fellow freelance writers. Share the in’s and out’s of running a freelance business.

If you have little freelancing experience simply learn from successful freelance writers. Read their posts. Take notes. Study their knowledge. Apply what you have learned through your blog posts.

These folks will show you the way when you feel confused, worried and quite lost as a newbie freelancer.

Buy their products. Hire them for their coaching services. Tap into their year’s worth of experience.

Learn. Practice. Teach.

Draw in clients. Attract successful, established freelance writers to become your friends. Grow your venture through the art of helping people for free, so they pay you for your services.

4: Charge Premium Rates

Charge premium rates.

Get your worth.

If you follow the above tips, you will naturally charge premium rates.

Those who are charging $5 or $10 for a 600-word blog post rarely if ever practice their writing. Their lack of clarity and confidence screams “cheap.”

Practice writing. Get clear on the worth of your service.

Whenever you set up your rates, tell yourself: “It’s only money.”

Chanting this mantra eases tension around the pricing process, helping you charge healthy, premium rates.

Note; as a new freelance writer, you better get serious about following tip #1 because practising your writing like a boss gives you the confidence and clarity to charge more than $5 or $10 per post.

Getting really clear on the rates you charge often demands some diligent mindset work. How do you feel handling money? How do you feel spending money? Feel the fears, worries, anxieties and flat out terrors associated with handling money – no matter how unpleasant – and you will do a fine job clearing out the fear to gain the faith necessary for charging premium rates.

    wonderful tips shared here, for the freelancers. I am really surprised to read the following tip:
    "Open a Word document. Write 500 to 1000 words daily. Put the Word document in the trash after you finish writing." But the next line put me in full confidence!! :-)
    That is really a good thing to practice to get confidence in the things you do or write.
    The tip #3 is very important, getting the confidence or influencers is an important thing in this, to get engage with them is really a great task, once you able to do that half of your job is done.

      Your presence is and your valuable comments add value to my pages. I am actually trying to implement many ideas shared by Ryan Bidulph through his blog posts. Among them, the most important I am trying to follow is to write at least 500 to 600 words daily to improve the skills of writing. But, the only difference is that I normally pen down my thoughts in a small diary and then type it on the computer. I still feel confident writing that way instead of directly typing on the system. It may look bit odd in this modern world of technology and gadgets, but that is the way I feel more comfortable.
