Webinar or Podcast

People have long debated which is better webinars or Podcasts Some prefer webinars because you can charge for them and interact with your audience in real time. The proponents of podcasts, on the other hand, say that they help them reach a lot more people and generate leads on a more regular basis. Today, let’s end this webinar vs. podcast debate once and for all by learning about the advantages and disadvantages of each. Let’s get started.

Webinars

Webinars are of two types—live and pre-recorded. However, live webinars are more popular because of their interactivity. Therefore, we will consider live webinars when listing the advantages and disadvantages of webinars.

Advantages

  • Support audio, video, and slides
  • Allow real-time interaction with the audience
  • Offer a revenue stream from the registration fees
  • Have a targeted audience
  • Are better for explaining things due to the live video format
  • Have a high conversion rate

Disadvantages

  • Are usually a one-time event
  • Have a much smaller audience than podcasts
  • Require more time and effort for preparation

Podcasts

When we say “podcasts,” we are referring to audio podcasts. While there is an option to create video podcasts as well, but those are normally called videocasts. In this comparison, the focus will be only on audio podcasts.

Advantages

  • Are available 24×7 as they are pre-recorded
  • Generate leads for much longer
  • Attract a larger audience
  • Require less time and effort to prepare and launch
  • Can be listened to on-the-go
  • Are not time-bound

Disadvantages

  • Don’t allow the audience to interact with the host
  • The audience is usually not as targeted as those of webinars
  • Are not usually used to generate revenue, only leads

Final Verdict

The key advantage of webinars over podcasts is the use of visual elements and the option to interact with the audience. This makes webinars a better option for training courses where you want to conduct live activities and discussions.

The main advantage that podcasts have over webinars is that there is no time-restraint and these attract a much larger audience over a period of time. So, if your goal is to generate leads, then podcasts are your best bet.

That said, the final decision rests on your requirements and how much time and effort you are willing to invest in creating these. It would help for you to learn more about each in detail. So, check out this infographic, which was first published on FLOW.
